As the university's "Center for the Creation of Knowledge", the Dokkyo University - The Dr. Amano Memorial Hall fuses together a comprehensive academic information function centering on the library with a classroom and auditorium function. The basic building design concept incorporates a functional fusion of zones centering on an "Inter-communication Zone" from which the library zone extends to the west and the classroom zone extends to the east.
For each long floor plate on each floor extending east to west, the library zone employs a "gradation of quietness" while the classroom zone employs a "gradation of activity", thereby introducing changing levels of communications intensity. The spatial configuration allows the differing levels of gradation to come together fluidly and visually through the circular "Inter-communication Zone" atrium.
