The B-building of the Kinki University was designed to house the newly established postgraduate law faculty and the economics department. The exterior design, based on the theme "Creating a new university image", remains conscious of the harmony with the overall campus of this time-honored institution and expresses discipline and austerity through its gothic style motif.
Within the long east-west oriented site, large staircase style lecture halls are located in the lower levels and other classrooms and research rooms are grouped in the upper levels. The two are connected via escalators housed in a circular 4-story gallery atrium.
For air conditioning, both functionality and economy are served with GHP (Gas Heat Pump) used for the classrooms and research rooms, while communal areas use a thermal ice storage system. Furthermore, from the perspective of energy conservation, a system that assesses air conditioning usage has been installed along with human presence sensors.
