On the main campus of Kinki University, the laboratories of the School of Science and Engineering, the School of Pharmacy and the Joint Research Center were developed into an education facility with an advanced research environment. A pre-cast pre-stressed concrete (PPC) structure design was adopted to realize a long-span column-less space. Flexible partitioning allows both central-corridor and side-corridor configurations. In addition, the atrium that serves as the main infrastructure supply route and the use of reverse beams makes the laboratories of this facility exceptionally flexible in terms of changeability and renewal, in comparison to conventional laboratories. Furthermore, in respect of the environment, a cogeneration system and solar power generation panels have been installed along with numerous other environmental measures in order to realize facility longevity and energy conservation.
