This complex is a joint project undertaken by Fukushima City and the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), and is designed to make full use of its favorable location immediately in front of the JR Fukushima station to bring life to the region.
The "Galleria", a space created to serve as a bridge between the Fukushima City facilities and the NHK facilities is positioned so that the multi-purpose hall, the various workshops, and the planetarium can all be taken in at once, and is the focal point for local cultural activities. Fully open construction fixtures have been used inside the facility to accommodate a variety of space usage formats.
In addition, rooftop gardening, solar power generation and natural lighting, etc, have been implemented in consideration of the environment. Furthermore, to ensure the functional maintenance of this complex public facility, the Fukushima City facility has an aseismatic structure higher than normal grade while the NHK facility has a seismic isolation structure designed to withstand the worst earthquake scenario.
