40 years after the Kanto Medical Center NTT EC (formerly the Kanto Teishin Hospital) first opened, reconstruction work commenced on a new building in 1997 while immersed in the ever changing environment of the medical world, and the new hospital was opened in December 2000.
While the new hospital is fitted with an equipment floor and has a large span configuration for high flexibility in order to accommodate the highest levels of medical care, the architecture also centers on the atrium, which is bathed in natural light in accordance with the concept of a "people friendly hospital", in order to realize patient-centric services. The introduction of natural light into staff areas and the implementation of terminal fan coil units to enhance maintainability create a hospital that is sympathetic not only to patients but to all people involved.
