The new landmark commercial facility located in front of Mejiro Station of JR Yamanote Line was designed with cooperation between NTT Facilities and NTT Urban Development.
The building is composed of 16 different types of retail stores and a semi-outdoor north to south passage with a feel of continuity from the outside, which allows easy access to the community space and facilities available for the local residents to make announcements.
Considering that the building is surrounded by a variety of urban scenes, such as a residential area, an educational facility, and Mejiro-dori, the exterior and volume designs aim to incorporate different townscape elements. Mainly, the Mejiro-dori side is composed of a 4-story structure while the residential side is of a 2-story structure, with different exterior finishes.
In order to achieve the high-quality look suitable for a location in Mejiro, and with a consideration to the brick structures of Gakushuin University, brick-style tiles were used on the main exterior, by randomly placing 3 shades of tiles of 2 different thicknesses to create a textured finish.
