Yokohama Medical Center has proceeded with a complete reconstruction project on the same site to restructure its aging buildings and dispersed functions, after a long period of contribution to the advancement of policy-based medical services and community health care as a former National Hospital.
• The design aims to achieve an integration with the surrounding environment and a relaxation of the height restriction with the application of Yokohama Urban Area Environmental Design System. A next-generation, modernized establishment has been created by combining more than 50 buildings into one medical facility, reforming safety and functionality and providing a large-scale parking lot.
• For the realization of sophisticated and advanced medical care, the building aims to improve functionality and mobility by concentrating the heavily equipped zone with an emergency and critical care center at its core. The building layout aims to achieve short circulation paths, according to which most patients stay only on the ground floor reserved for the Outpatient Department and by placing clinical laboratories and central treatment rooms in an adjacent area.
• The facility ensures high reliability for the continuation of medical care by adopting a seismic isolation structure and high flexibility in planning and layout changes by achieving a large-span of 12.4 m with reinforced concrete.
