This project entailed the rebuilding of this 362-bed hospital to a 450-bed hospital on the same site whilst retaining the existing medical functions. The project concentrated on construction time reduction and cost rationalization, and the time taken from initial planning to the re-opening of the wards was 2 years and 2 months.
The main routes through the hospital consist of 6m width "hospital streets" on both the 1st and 2nd floors which are connected directly to the central hall atrium to create a calm and easy-to-understand outpatient facility. The floor plate of the wards is compact and highly flexible and the design improves work efficiency by shortening flow routes and securing staff space.
The dispersed buildings and functions were consolidated and re-configured, while medical functions were enhanced and grounds for further next generation rebuilding were created.
