This building, located in close proximity to JR Koriyama Station along National Highway Route No. 4, is in the central area for commerce and business in Koriyama City, in which office buildings for financial institutions such as banks and insurance companies are concentrated.
The City has lacked abundance in expression despite being the second most bustling city in the Tohoku region, as most of the buildings in this area along National Highway Route No. 4 adopt independently-framed windows on the exterior walls to cope with the bitter cold winter weather.
Taking advantage of the building's locational characteristics of being visible from the bullet trains, the design aims to transmit the impression of Koriyama and the brand image of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance. With the use of a glass curtain wall on the east side (Route No. 4 side) visible from the bullet trains and the metal-based sidings on the north, south, and west exterior walls as a component for external heat insulation, the building provides a sophisticated impression and a new landscape along the axis from the station.
The building transmits a stylish image along with the brand image of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance by adding a new character to the urban landscape of Koriyama with the glimpse of the people's movement inside through the glass curtain wall and a 'lantern' effect that illuminates the main street of Koriyama in the night.
