This building was constructed to serve as the new headquarters for the operations of NTT West, in an area adjacent to a large commercial facility where the old and new coexist and where "Doi-nagare," a part of traditional Hakata Gion Yamakasa, has been passed down. In order to maximize the floor area, a development method that perceives the entire premises, including the pre-existing building, as a whole is adopted to bring out the maximum potential of the site.
The building was designed to maintain business continuity even at the time of disaster, by implementing measures such as a damping device developed with the involvement of NTT Facilities, flood control equipment in preparation for urban flooding, and the building exterior with a natural ventilation function. On top of that, environmental technologies, such as LED lighting for the entire building, combined usage of gas and electric air conditioning, and state-of-the-art BEMS, are incorporated to actively engage in energy conservation and CO₂ reduction.
Our goal was to create a building that is loved by the community and that develops with the community, together with the pre-existing neighboring building which underwent the exterior wall renovation to match the new building.
