NTT West Training Center Main Building was constructed to combine training facilities located in different parts of western Japan into one location as a locational hub of NTT West Group.
A self-sustaining outdoor environment was created inside the building in an attempt to achieve the three goals of the project: "search for a new landscape" in a location adjoining hotels and low-rise residential area, "space that maximizes the training efficiency," and "a truly green building that stimulates sensitivity." Specifically, a unit, composed of a small and cozy atrium to feel the nature around and a compactly compartmentalized training room with a rest space beside it, is clustered together in a large 35 m × 65 m space.
Pleasant nature embraces the entire place by finely weaving the rapidly changing external entropy. Such an environment maximizes training efficiency by making trainees relaxed and generating active discussions. At the same time, the design aspires to create an environmental architecture that takes account of an embodiment of the idea that intuitive tolerance is enhanced for those who are surrounded by nature.
