This building is a tenant office constructed in an area where a mix of offices, residences, and retail stores coexist to create a typical work-and-life combined townscape of Osaka.
The building which opens up toward the street stands on a strip-shaped plot with a narrow frontage and a long depth. The braces which suppress long-span building deformation add character to the exterior design.
The eaves on the first floor welcome not only the office workers who work in the building, but also the workers in the neighboring buildings and residents. An urban supermarket started its business on the first floor while a pocket park provides a place of activity, newly opened in the area. The design aims to add depth to the townscape by lining moderate-scale spaces.
Offices and the core sections are linearly arranged on the standard floors, which can be partitioned into small tenant sections of 100 m2 per unit to accommodate the community needs. The side windows adjacent to the neighboring property open up to 500 mm at the foot to allow ventilation caused by the temperature difference in the approximately 60 m stairwell and the natural ventilation from the prevailing wind.
The establishment is a low-cost building. The design seeks universal strength that overcomes individual preferences by pursuing rationality in the features of site conditions and the building form, in terms of economic efficiency, functionality, and environment. Such features include the interlayer section eaves which allow the installation of ready-made metal window frames, the braces which minimize steel material, the shades created by the weight-saving extrusion molding plates, and an eco-shaft which utilizes the stairwell.
